He won the Deseret News baby photo contest with his big blue eyes and his curly hair!
In our family, the first one up each morning had the "right" to make breakfast...ugh, he was always the first and fixed oatmeal! (funny, how I like it now) He was always the first one out of the house each morning. He has always loved the outdoors. He followed his Dad and big brothers in fishing and hunting even chose his field of work to be in the great outdoors...spending time in Alaska and South America but mostly in the mountains of the West.
In our earliest years, we were known as "Vicki , Ricky and Craig" and sometimes Micky joined us. Each very different...liked doing different things but still had a bond of love and respect.
Rick is the 10th child and 5th son in our family. He followed his brothers by playing sports and was good at them...baseball, basketball and football.

He has a heart of gold...a sensitive, caring person. I always thought he was a man of few words but I think he is a bit like Dad, for when he does speak, everyone listens. He doesn't have alot of use for small talk.
One of his best friends in his teens became my husband. :)
He married Coleen who was a great addition to our family and they had Josh and Aly. He loves them and their spouses and his 5 delightful grandchildren.
He joined the Army and served in Viet Nam and received a purple heart.
He is a great scouter and helped many many boys reach their Eagle.
He was just recently released from serving as Bishop in his ward.
There is much we could say about this guy...him being gone for hours at a time as a kid and then choosing the finest switch he could find for his discipline :) At one time he was called by some as Ricky Ben. We all remember Goldie, Rick's dog. Laughing until his cheeks hurt as tears ran down them. Playing his guitar for hours. T.P.ing our Seminary teacher's home to show the love. His artistic abilities. Putting up with my tears until I found myself. Planning family reunions oft by himself. Caring for his dying brother. Helping out nieces and nephews when they needed him most. Getting arrested on his motorcycle in Amarillo for a concealed weapon. Ridiculous!...and he had just returned from serving his country! Construction help was always appreciated in sibs homes! Recently he has become a horseman!! Also known at times as Richard, the lion hearted!
This guy is a man of substance...do you know how much you are loved by so many?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICK!

He's been a great husband, friend, dad, and grandpa! Here's to another 60 (yikes!)
Coleen emailed: Very cute! Rick read it, too…. Got back from Jackson on Sat afternoon! The solitude of Jackson was very pleasant.
The kids came over today for the b-day celebration! (which was NICE)
Congrats on the new announcement of another Gibby!!!
